McLellan can win a medal

Injured Australian hurdler Jana Rawlinson says Sally McLellan has the potential to bring home Australia’s first medal in the 100m hurdles on Tuesday.

“I think she can (win a medal),” Rawlinson told the Seven Network.

Rawlinson said if McLellan can pull it together then she will be a serious contender.

“Sally’s done a lot of barriers this year in that she’s broken a long time standing Australian record.

“She’s right up there with a shot, she’s a real fighter and what was good about that race (the semis) she does start a little sluggishly in the beginning but she really comes home in the last part of the race.

“Obviously she wants it that badly that she’s pushing forward.

“If she can combine both of those aspects - a quick first 50m and then have the heart to come home strong - I think a medal could be hers.”

McLellan finished fourth in her semi-final in 12.70 seconds, becoming the first Australian woman to reach an Olympic sprint hurdles final since Glynis Nunn-Cearns in 1984.
